Fond Memories of Dee Bartek

In January of 1995, I contacted Dee about breeding a mare to Temon. I hadn’t ever met her, but she instantly took me under her wing finding me a Futurity breeding and telling me about a good mare that she thought  would be a good cross on her stud. We bought Brilliant Conclusion. She was in foal, but we chose to buy only the mare and not the foal she was carrying. On October 26th, a fire broke out at Carney Performance Horses in Rome, Georgia. Sadly, the fire spread so quickly that the entire barn, apartment, and all 19 horses inside perished within minutes. The only animals saved were a dog and miniature pony. Trainer, Blake Carney, and his partner lived in an apartment located above the barn, so their home and all belongings were lost as well.
