WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. (November 4, 2026) – The Coplen family is proud to announce the purchase of Shesa Hot Suggestion, “Maizey,” for youth exhibitor Kayla Coplen. Maizey is an AQHA and APHA double registered mare, a World Champion, and a two-time Reserve World Champion. Kayla and Maizey will show under the guidance of Larson Performance Horses.
The purchase marks a new chapter for Kayla, who lost her heart horse, Machine Life, “Mack,” following colic surgery. Kayla and Mack competed together in walk/jog and were preparing to step up into lope classes at the time of his loss two years ago.
In the time since, the family deliberately took their time finding the right next partner. Kayla tried a couple of leases that ultimately did not work out, and a close friend generously loaned Kayla her horse so she could compete at the Level 1 Championships, where they received multiple Top 10 placings.
With Maizey, Kayla now has the opportunity to build a lasting partnership with a proven, accomplished mare.
“The people in this horse community have really shown up for Kayla,” said Brandi Coplen, Kayla’s mother. “They embraced and supported her in ways I never could have imagined, and it makes me so proud to call them our friends. We are so thankful to every one of them. Now Kayla has the time to build a real partnership with Maizey, and we can’t wait to see where they go together.”
Kayla and Maizey will be shown under the guidance of Larson Performance Horses. Together, they will be stepping into the 14-18 Level 1 division, with the pair expected to make their show debut in the upcoming season.
