Sometimes championships are influenced by first impressions. Those first steps into the arena should showcase a horse whose coat shines—reflecting the care, preparation, and attention to detail behind the scenes.

While good nutrition and consistent grooming lay the foundation, many exhibitors know that achieving that next-level shine often comes down to the smaller, lesser-known details. From strategic grooming routines to a few tried-and-true tricks, these tips can help bring out the best in your horse’s coat when it matters most.

Shine From the Inside Out

The most important thing an owner/exhibitor can do is to make sure they’re keeping their horse healthy on the inside. This includes a consistent nutrition plan that provides the best vitamins and minerals to fuel the horse’s energy, as well as a deworming program that’s been structured with a veterinarian.
