When Leah Nim came to Trendsetter Performance Horses in California as a young girl to ride with friends, she quickly discovered the irresistible world of horses, and she never looked back.
Her decidedly non-horsey family could not deny her passion for horses, her talent, and her commitment, however, so in March 2024, they bought Leah her own horse, Disturbing The Peace, aka “Fergus,” for Walk Trot events.
In fact, her first horse show ever was the massive 2024 Arizona Sun Circuit, but Leah was undaunted, riding 2-3 times a week, and by the time The Equine Chronicle interviewed her at the 2024 Arizona Fall Championship, she was winning circuits with Fergus.
One of Fergus’s best characteristics, Leah said at the time, is “he’s smart and teaches me things I don’t know.” Even though Fergus has a habit of eating the gate, she declared her favorite event is Trail, because “it’s fun to go over the poles!”
So it was only natural that the horse she fell in love with at the 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress became a Congress Champion in Trail that show.
“We flew to the Congress to shop for a horse,” explains her trainer, Kellie Hinely. “Leah’s moving up from Walk Trot to the loping classes, and the Youth World is her goal.”
As Kellie and Leah looked for the special horse for her last year in 13 & Under and beyond, they tried Only One More Drink, aka “Wesley,” by The Best Martini and out of Willys Red Chip. Kellie explains, “She tried at least 10 horses, and from the first second she rode him, he was perfect for her.”
Wesley and youth Kaidyn Goodwin won their Congress Champion title in Level 1 Youth Trail 14-18 at that show, topping their previous year’s Top Five in the event, and coming on the heels of a Bronze World Championship in L1 Youth 14-18 Hunt Seat Equitation at the 2025 AQHYA World Show.
For Leah, she now has her perfect all-around horse, and she says he always shows up for her, goes to work, and tries to do his job so she can learn more. In fact, they already earned a Youth Grand Champion title in Performance Halter Geldings at the 2026 Arizona Sun Circuit, and a Top Five in Youth Trail 13 & Under on Saturday, March 7th.
“She’s so natural and talented, and she’s a perfectionist and very hard on herself,” says Kellie. “She wants it so much, she makes me want to be better, and her family is awesome.”
As Leah looks forward to her Western Riding debut this year, an exciting time for Leah, the barn, and her family, everyone would like to thank trainer Jocelyn d’Entremont and owner Lynn McLean for allowing Leah to have Wesley in her life. Leah and her family are also grateful to Kellie Hinely of Trendsetter Performance Horses for finding Leah the perfect match.
Readers will be able to watch Leah with One More Drink at the 2025 AQHYA World Championship Show, and we at The Equine Chronicle look forward to seeing much more of this duo in our news feeds! Congratulations to everyone involved in this perfect pairing.
