Select Amateur Heidi Rasor couldn’t even make it to the finals at the World Show for many years. Now, for the last three years in a row, she has been in the final cuts.
What has made the difference?
First of all, there’s her equine partner, Full Drape, the 2014 sorrel gelding by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of Vitalism (by An Awesome Mister). “This is a really special horse. He’s really, really come into his own. He’s fun to show, and he always shows up. It’s just been incredible,” says Heidi.
Then there’s her barn, Reid Thomas Performance Horses, with trainers Reid Thomas, Myles McLean, Curtis Reynolds, Martin Doustou, and Sara Hauer. Heidi explains,“It’s such an amazing support team – everybody is there pushing you to be better. Myles just makes Wallace’s legs move like they glide on glass. It’s incredible; he does such a great job.”
They also have a unique plan, says Heidi. “We don’t attack all the poles in the warm-up pen before we go. Myles lopes him around like he’s the best pleasure horse on the grounds, then we go over a few poles, and then we go show. Less is more with him, and it’s just been so much fun.”
The barn also lets Wallace be Wallace, Heidi reveals. “He has the quirkiest personality. He has an opinion about everything, and we tend to let him have the opinion. We don’t cancel it out. He’s particular, but those quirks are what makes him so great in there. He has a lot of expression — sometimes he has a little too much expression– but he’s just so much fun to show and he’s not a lot of work. He’s really, he’s really easy.”
It seems Wallace has found his perfect partner, as Heidi also sees the world in her own fun and distinctive way – and she brings others just as much joy. For example, after exiting the arena with her Gold Globe, she was overjoyed to discover what was in the bottom of the base of the trophy. “There’s a hole and you can set it on your saddle horn. So, you know, because it’s heavy and you don’t want to drop it because you work so hard to get it!” she quips.
And most of all, Wallace was supposed to actually be at this show. “This one was planned,” laughs Heidi, “but I’m not going to complain that I ended 2025 with a Congress and a World Show win. That’s very, very special stuff.”
