It’s a moment everyone hopes to experience someday: being the last rider left in the pen as the World Show placings are announced. When Lane Kail and his horse, Battarang, were announced as the Level 3 Youth 14-18 World Champions this year, it was a moment made especially sweet, not only because it was his last year showing as a youth, but also because years ago, when he first began showing horses, it was Pleasure that hooked him–the same class he became a World Champion in this day. Talk about full circle.
“In the moment when I was announced Champion, I couldn’t even begin to wrap my head around the fact that the last time I’d go in the Pleasure pen at the Youth World, I would win! It was definitely an amazing feeling being the last one in the arena and going out on top. I can’t thank Casey and Deanna Willis enough for making all my huge dreams come true,” he says. But Casey sends the compliments right back to Lane. “He is always hard working and committed to improving himself,” Willis says.
Lane and Battarang, whose barn name is Judi, are no strangers to success when it comes to big stages. In 2023, the duo won the 14-18 Triple Crown when they clinched championships at the Youth World, NSBA, and Congress. The duo had also won the Level 2 Senior Pleasure at the World in 2023. But Lane doesn’t limit himself to Pleasure. He also enjoys showing his horse Winn Like Flinn, who he calls Jase, in Ranch Riding, Ranch Trail, and Ranch Rail.
