Survival to Show Ring Success: TB Double Feature and Jarrell Jackson Earn Yearling Maiden Open Stallion Stakes Title for Terry Bradshaw

For Jarrell Jackson, winning the inaugural Yearling Maiden Stallion Stakes with TB Double Feature, owned by Terry Bradshaw, was more than just another victory in the show ring—it was a triumph of resilience.

“We flushed two embryos,” Jackson said. “We showed that weanling last year and decided to let TB Double Feature grow out. We call him Brad at home, and everything that could have happened to him has happened. When he was a weanling, he got very sick. He’s just a survivor—we didn’t give up on him because he never gave up on himself.”

Jackson said the colt demonstrated remarkable determination after battling pleurisy as a young foal. Pleurisy, or pleuritis, is an inflammation of the membranes around the lungs and chest cavity. In foals, it often stems from severe pneumonia and causes labored breathing, fever, and coughing. Vets typically treat it with antibiotics and by draining fluid from the chest when needed.

“The vet said he had some form of pleurisy, so they drained his chest and inserted a tube,” Jackson explained. “Now, you can’t even tell where the scars were. He’s just a true winner—through and through.”

Jackson said the win was even more significant because it marked TB Double Feature’s first time away from home—and his performance exceeded every expectation.

“This was his very first trip away from home, and we’re so proud of how he’s done,” Jackson said. “He’s a great reflection of our breeding program. His dam, Speechless, is a homebred mare we bought as a young horse and made a world champion last year, so this win is really satisfying from a breeder’s standpoint.”

After his big debut, Jackson said Brad has earned a well-deserved break. “He did great,” Jackson added. “Now he gets to go eat some treats and relax for a bit. Since this was his first show, he’s not qualified for the World show, but we’ve got another colt headed there as a yearling. We’ll probably bring this one back next year as a two-year-old.”
