WCHA Offers All Breed Versatility Competition; Entries Open

“Twenty to thirty years ago, our Quarter Horses, Paints, and Appaloosas, who were promoted as the most versatile horses in the world, competed in Halter in the morning and were then rode in Western Pleasure, Reining, Trail, and Roping events later in the day,” says Don Falcon, Executive Director of WCHA. “This is no longer the case because our Western disciplines have become very specialized because certain bloodlines excel in events that suit the owners and trainers that prefer a specific event. In an effort to bridge the gap between Halter bred horses and performance bred horses, we wanted to showcase the all-around equine athlete that could reach into all disciplines.”

AzQHA Hosts Star Studded, Red Carpet Premiere Style Event For Big Winners

Reminiscent of a Moroccan citadel, Los Cedros is a mix of ancient design and modern flair that provided an exotic and casually elegant setting for the evening. About 260 people attended this special celebration event. Enormous hand-hewn timber doors ushered guest into the lush courtyard where dinner, drinks, fun and friends were enjoyed. Members were greeted with goodie bags from Farnam and photo ops resembling a red carpet premiere.

No. 1 Auburn Equestrian stays on top after an impressive 2-0 weekend while sweeping both opponents across the board, collecting 37 points over the weekend. SMU and South Carolina move up to No. 2 and No. 3 this week while Texas A&M drops to No. 4 after a road loss to now No. 6 Georgia.

With the addition of these exciting new programs and the regenerated Breeder’s Futurity rolling out in 2019, we are able to reach out to a wider base of interests. This will serve us well as we gain more support for our state and the promotion of the American Quarter Horse with a new vigor,” says 2018 IQHA President Kim Strong.

– Went 1-1 last week for the Skyhawks in equitation over fences and helped lead UT Martin to a 10-5 win over South Dakota State on February 8.
– Earned a 73-71.5 victory over her South Dakota State opponent.
– Named Most Outstanding Performer in horsemanship in UT Martin’s win over South Dakota State.

The First 2 Finish Trail Duel is a head-to-head match up against the clock. It’s a timed race over Trail obstacles where the winner will be crowned based on a combination of time and penalties. The event is open to youth, non pro, and open exhibitors that will compete against each other for their share of a $15,000 purse. Additionally, a $1,000 bonus will be paid out to the highest placing non pro exhibitor in the class.

The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team opened up a busy weekend at the Auburn University Equestrian Center with an impressive 17-0 win over No. 10 UT Martin Friday afternoon. The victory marked the third-straight win over a Top 10 team in 2019 and moved the Tigers to 8-0 on the year.

This month’s Shorty’s Horsemanship Rider of the Month goes to Texas A&M rider Sarah Orsak. The senior from San Antonio, Texas tallied a 9.5-point victory, her highest margin of victory this season. Orsak helped the Aggies to a 4-1 victory in Horsemanship against South Dakota State.
