Lenora

NSBA News

By: Caroline Fredenburg

While showing at the Florida Gulf Show, I had the privilege of catching up with sisters, Ella and Lenora Roberts from San Marcos, Texas. I first met these friendly competitors when they purchased both their horses from my trainer, Tommy Sheets. Both Ella and Lenora ride under the guidance of Duke Williams Performance Horses.

Riding and showing horses since they were eight years old, Ella rides RV Miracle Machine, who she affectionately calls Mickey, and Lenora rides Don’t I Look Good, or Chico.  When asked to give an interesting fact about her horse, Lenora told me that Chico loves to eat oranges. Ella said that Mickey is always playing with his tongue.

These sisters have more in common than just their love of horses. Both of these girls show their horses in the same classes: Trail, Horsemanship, and Showmanship, with their favorite being Trail. They also agreed that their favorite show to compete at is the Big A in Conyers, Georgia.

In addition to their favorite class, these young competitors believe their biggest accomplishments have been on the Trail course. In 2018, Ella was the bronze globe winner at the AQHYA World Show. Lenora was a top 5 finisher in the 12-14 Trail at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress. The two have set goals that they hope achieve in the near future. Ella has her eyes set on the golden globe in the Showmanship ring. Lenora, on the other hand, is consistent with her plans in Trail. She hopes to bring home a top 3 finish in the Trail at the Quarter Horse Congress. Although these sisters have many things in common, they love the opportunity to compete most of all.

Outside of the show ring, Ella and Lenora have quite a few things in common. These two both play volleyball, run track, and are active members in their church. They also enjoy breeding and selling bernedoodle puppies with their mother, which takes a lot of their time. Lenora loves hanging out with friends, and Ella likes baking and playing with her mini horse, Sturgill.

We wish Ella and Lenora the best of luck in the new year!
