Aaron Moses and Katy Jo Zuidema Named Co-Champions in Equine Chronicle Maiden Western Pleasure at SOQHA Madness

Two of the highlighted slot classes at the SOQHA Madness in Wilmington, Ohio over the weekend were The Equine Chronicle events! First up, on Friday evening, was the Equine Chronicle 3 and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure class, which saw 25 exceptional entries. Steve Reams rode The Dark Impulse to score a big win, his second of the season after claiming the Hylton Maiden Western Pleasure Championship title just a few weeks prior.

Next up, it was time for the maiden horses to take their turn in the pen during the Equine Chronicle 3 and Over Maiden Western Pleasure. Judging the tough class of 21 horses was Elizabeth Baker, Kim Myers, Tom Robertson, and Mike Hay.

In fact, the entries were so exceptional across the board that the judges crowned co-champions in the class. Sharing the top spot were Aaron Moses with Moonrageous for Starland Ranch, LLC. and Katy Jo Zuidema with Hitt The Jackpot for Candace Edgerton. Both winners received checks for $11,250. Moses won the tie-breaker and was presented with the Equine Chronicle buckle and other awards, while Zuidema received the $2,000 Harris Bonus for competing in a Harris Leather & Silverworks saddle.

Tying for third place was Gil Galyean with The Aftermath, winning $4,250 for Gil and Becky Galyean, and Rusty Green with Bleu Ivy, winning $4,250 for Cathrin Gutmann. Fifth was Angie Rigdon Cannizzaro with Moonstruckk, winning $3,000 for Kent Taylor. Sixth was Andy Cochran with Dew Not Touch, winning $2,500 for Troy Oakley.

Katy Jo Zuidema

Seventh was Denton Debuhr with Moonlite Blazing, winning $2,000 for Joanie Zelnio. This was also the Intermediate Champion and received a $1,000 bonus. Eighth place was Randy Wilson with Only On A Sundi, winning $1,500 for Byron Parsons. Ninth was Ty Hornick with A Slow Martini for Jaida Dreyer. Tenth was Karen Hornick with She Isa Croud Proud for Matthew Main.

Eleventh was Kristy Starnes with Don’t Know Don’t Care for Jay and Kristy Starnes. Twelfth was Ashley Lakins with Don’t Doubt Im Cool for Dennis and Debbie Martin. Thirteenth was Theresa Willis with An Absolute Martini for John McNichol. This was the Limited Champion. Fourteenth was Alan Fisher with He Only Dates Models for Shannon Fisher. This was the Reserve Limited Champion and received $500.

Tying for fifteenth was Danny Desmond with No Doubt Im Shy for Amey Bohner. This was the Reserve Intermediate Champion and received $500. Also fifteenth was Wade Parks with Bestlopentheline for Linda Smit. Seventeenth was Brian Baker with Expense Acct for Mary Webre. Eighteenth was Jonathan Himes with EyellBTheBestMartini for Erin McDonald. Nineteenth was Kelby Hutchinson with SL Just One Look for Marilyn Alkire. Twentieth was Saul Sliss with RL Best Version Yet for Dena Veno.

Tying for twenty-first was Jared Johns with Hot Vitals R Good for Debra Wasik and Martin Doustou with Its A Joy Ride for Mark Mowbray.
