After showing extensively as a youth, and later as an amateur, Alexis Wrobbel took a step back from the horse industry to attend law school and get married. Now, she and her husband, Brandon, are jumping back into the horse scene with both boots on as they have recently acquired the AQHA stallion, Hubba Hubba Huntin, from their good friends, the Porter family.

“I took a few years away from horses, and now we’re slowly starting to build back up our band of horses,” Alexis says. “It all started with a yearling by Its A Southern Thing that my husband purchased as a wedding gift for me. His name is A Lil Bit Southern. Amy Gumz had posted a little video of him with his recipient mare loping around like he was already doing Longe Line! I fell in love with him, and Brandon bought him for me as a surprise!”

“We’ve always loved Hubba and have several babies by him. We have a four-year-old that’s with Ryan Painter, named The Hot Rod, that competes in Over Fence classes.

Now, Alexis is expanding her herd to include “Hubba,” the 2004 AQHA stallion by Huntin For Chocolate and out of Hubba Hubba Hotrod, that has long been owned by the Porter family. “I’ve been good friends with the Porter family for many years,” she says. “Actually, when we flew up to Canada for Breann’s wedding, the day after she was married, Brandon proposed on top of a beautiful mountain!”

“When Breann called me thinking about going in a different direction, they were trying to find the perfect place for Hubba. He’s a very special horse to them, and they were looking for the best fit. They knew how much we care for our horses, and they thought we would be a good choice to take the reins and take Hubba into the next stage of his life. I was so floored and absolutely flattered. I literally called my husband and told him about the opportunity we’d been presented with. He said we should do it! He’s extremely supportive. He comes to the horse shows and has never told me that I couldn’t buy a horse. That’s how this whole thing got started.”

But if you would’ve asked Alexis a few months back if she’d ever considered owning a stallion, her answer would’ve been a resounding, no. Ten months ago, Alexis and Brandon purchased 40 acres in Norman, OK where they plan to build their new facility. That’s where Hubba will stand in 2022 after he closes out the 2021 breeding year at High Point Performance Horses. “When we were going through the drafting process and house plans, Brandon called me and asked where I wanted my stud facility to be. I told him that I would never own a stud, so I didn’t need one. Needless to say, we’re adding that stud facility!”

Never having owned or managed a stallion before, Alexis is aware of the hard work that’s ahead of her. But, she believes that her extensive experience as a mare owner and breeder will assist in this process. “I know it’s a lot of work, and it takes the right person to do it. One thing we definitely want mare owners to know is that I understand the mare side of the equitation. I understand that a mare owner needs to be able to talk to someone and to get semen at a certain time. I’ve worked with stud owners who were great and those who were not so great. My biggest goal is to be there for the mare owners, not just when they’re trying to breed for a foal, but also after the fact when they’re trying to promote their horse or sell it. I want to be there to support them as much as possible.”

Alexis plans to start that journey by ramping up social media efforts and advertising. They also have some fun surprises in the works for their valued mare owners and have just agreed to sponsor the $500 Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Maturity at the Arizona Fall Championship. “I truly want mare owners to know that we appreciate their consideration, because there are tons of nice studs out there.”

“Hubba has proven himself and has proven babies. Of course, it’s everyone’s goal to have a stallion and for it to win and outproduce itself. He puts such a great mind on his foals, and they’re super pretty. He brings them up in the shoulder and gives them a really good reach in their front leg. On top of that, he’s just a really fun horse to be around. He’s quirky, silly, and is a super sweet and gentle giant.”

Be sure to keep an eye out for more exciting news coming from the Wrobbel family regarding their new stallion and new farm, Iron W Ranch.
