Where’s Wallace? An Incredible Congress Championship Story.

“Sometimes the most special moments in life are the ones we don’t plan for…” ~Trainer Reid Thomas.

Every year, Full Drape, aka “Wallace,” goes to the QH Congress to show in Trail with his owner, Heidi Rasor.

“We’re usually in a stall (in the Gilligan) close to the train tracks, and he gets very wound up,” explains Heidi.

And as a result, every year for the past six years, the 2014 sorrel gelding by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of Vitalism has gone into Trail, his signature event, and hit all the poles.

This year, Heidi told Wallace he could have the year off from Congress while she focused on her daughter’s wedding planning and while they both relaxed before the World Show. “Lo and behold, a week ago, Reid (Thomas) called and said your horse is two hours from Ohio, and I thought he was kidding. And he said, ‘Would you like to come show him?’”

It seems that Isabella Buckley’s horse, Shes Rockin My Dream, aka “KitKat” was supposed to be the one on that trailer, and instead, it was Wallace. “They do look a lot alike,” says Heidi.  “I guess they figured it out about 12 hours down the road.”

Wallace and KitKat – or is it KitKat and Wallace?

This, however, was after Assistant Trainer Sarah Hauer had attempted to turn Wallace out to pasture at Reid Thomas Performance Horses in Boerne, Texas, and she was looking for him everywhere in what one might call a slight panic.  “The joke between my daughter and I is, ‘Where the hell is Wallace?’  I’m still slightly traumatized,” says Sara.

Reid Thomas explains, “I’ve often said at home – Wallace & KitKat could be twins.”

He quickly juggled, got the right horse to Columbus within 24 hours, entered Wallace, and they managed to get Heidi’s travel organized. “One of the most powerful parts of management is defining a mistake that might actually be an unplanned opportunity!” says Reid, who expresses his gratitude for his “special force team working while most sleep!”

And the stars aligned – Wallace was in a quieter stall, Heidi was able to get all her things there on the second trailer arriving a few days later, and the duo earned their first Congress Championship together: Heidi Rasor and Full Drape, 2025 Congress Champions in the L3 Select Amateur Trail.

“This win will always hold a special memory & inside joke within the gates of my program! I’ve said out loud many times here – Wallace is meant to come to the Congress 2025!” Reid says.

As Wallace rested after earning that coveted title, Reid explains it brought a special smile to his face as he reminisced upon what felt somewhat like “an air traffic control center mix up! We will always hold a joking, banter memory of how this win was made possible. Congrats to Heidi and Wallace!”

Heidi and Wallace relax the day after their big win and Wallace gets a well-deserved grazing session. “They give us everything,” says Heidi.
