“I don’t remember a moment in my life when I haven’t loved horses.” Countless horsewomen can no doubt relate to Amateur competitor Evon Werner’s sentiment. Evon has been a staple in the AQHA industry for many years and has been a longtime supporter of the industry she loves. Recently, Evon purchased the legendary Western Pleasure mare Never Have I Ever or “Madonna” from Kent Ray Taylor.
The purchase was driven by Werner’s appreciation for the mare and by her lifelong love of great horses. “I’m thrilled to own her,” says Werner. She says she was drawn to Madonna’s beauty, conformation, and great mind. “She can jog a hole in the ground. She’s a little machine who’s sweet as can be. Riding and showing her is fun. It’s not work–she makes it easy for me.”
Never Have I Ever is arguably one of the best Western Pleasure mares ever to jog into an arena. The 2017 double registered AQHA/APHA mare is by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of A Certain Illusion. She is a multiple AQHA World, NSBA World, and Congress Champion.
Werner shares that she and Taylor have developed a close friendship over their years together with trainer Blake Weis. “I was so glad that Kent Ray offered her to me. I knew that several people wanted her, but he really wanted her to stay in the barn. He knew I loved her and am in the barn to stay,” says Werner.’
