The 2016 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show will host a reining team event on August 11. Exhibitors are automatically opted into a Ford Youth World reining team competition, to be held concurrently with the prelims on August 11 in the Performance Arena. A random draw will divide the entries into five-person teams.

When Ford Youth World exhibitors ride in the reining prelims, they will be riding for their spot in the class’ finals and for a gold medal in the team competition. The concept of individual and team competition at the Ford Youth World mimics the style of an FEI-level reining event.

After the conclusion of the reining prelims on August 11, each team’s low score will be dropped and the top three teams with the highest composite score will be presented awards in the Performance Arena at the conclusion of the reining prelims. Then on August 13, footage of the team awards presentation will air on the big screen in the Jim Norick Arena before the reining finals awards ceremony.

On August 10, reining exhibitors are encouraged to watch a demonstration of an FEI horse inspection, where demonstration riders lead their American Quarter horses at the jog before a ground jury that inspects them for soundness. Exhibitors have the opportunity to ask questions about FEI reining competitions and, more specifically, about the FEI Junior and Young Rider Reining World Championships, set for August 2017 in Switzerland.

At the 2017 edition of the FEI Junior and Young Rider Reining World Championships, equestrians ages 14-21 will represent their home countries as they vie for team and individual FEI medals. Other upcoming FEI events include the 2016 FEI Reining World Championships, August 11-13 in Switzerland, then the much-anticipated 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Bromont, Quebec.

About FEI Reining
FEI, founded in 1921, is the governing body for all international equestrian events in dressage and para-equestrian dressage, jumping, eventing, driving and para-equestrian driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. FEI establishes the regulations and approves equestrian programs at world championships, continental and regional games, as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Junior and Young Rider World Championships. Although reining has been a class recognized by AQHA since 1949, it wasn’t until 2000 that reining became an FEI discipline.

About the Ford Youth World
The Ford Youth World is the world’s largest, single-breed world championship horse show open exclusively to youth exhibitors age 18 and under. This is the pinnacle event for youth competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes, representing English, western and halter disciplines, or earn an invitation through their state or provincial affiliate.
