Jen Kilika says trainer, Jenny Welhouse, has made a significant impact on her life over the years they have worked together. “I have ridden and trained with Jenny for more years than I care to count. She has taught me to be a thinking rider that cares both about the performance AND the horse. The things I have learned in training and showing with her have translated over to all my life areas. I am a stronger version of myself for the lessons I learned.”

Jen explains that Jenny is indeed a positive role model in the horse community and instills the necessary foundation of good horsemanship and sportsmanship. It’s not just about ‘looking pretty’ and winning, but about teaching her clients to ride and problem solve when things don’t go expected. “She gives so much of her time to helping those that can’t afford or don’t even know how to ask for help.”

At the Congress in 2016, Jenny rode Jen’s horse, Havn a Supreme Time, to the Reserve Champion title in the Congress Classic. Jen says, “We had decided to enter him, even though he was still a bit greener than some of his competition. But Jenny rode her heart out and never stopped smiling. Watching her clear that last fence and seeing the pride is a moment I will cherish for a lifetime.”

Jen also says that the essential lessons Jenny reminds us of are that, “Nothing gets done alone. We are a family bonded by our love for horses.”
