Our Condolences Following the Passing of AQHA Stallion, Zips Chocolate Chip

Jan_2009_lgEveryone here at The Equine Chronicle is deeply saddened to pass along the news that AQHA All-Time Leading Sire, Congress Champion, and World Champion stallion Zips Chocolate Chip has passed away at the ripe old age of 30. Bred, raised, and loved by Ann and Phil Myers of Ashland, Ohio, Zips Chocolate Chip was a 1985 stallion by the legendary Zippo Pine Bar and out of Fancy Blue Chip.

Not only was Zips Chocolate Chip an AQHA All-Time Leading Sire of Western Pleasure point earners, he was a World Champion and All American Quarter Horse Congress Champion in his own right. From the period of 1987 to 1989, it’s recorded that Zips Chocolate Chips earnings totaled $59,443.

His many fans in the industry will remember numerous impressive performances, like when he was crowned the Reserve Congress Champion as a two-year-old at the 1987 All American Quarter Horse Congress, while Ann passed out delicious chocolate chip cookies to his supporters in the stands. That next year, he did one better by being named the Congress Champion as a 3-year-old. In 1989, the talented stallion won ten consecutive Western Pleasure classes to qualify for the AQHA World Show, where he was named the unanimous World Champion in Junior Western Pleasure by receiving first place under all five judges.

After living out much of his life as a breeding sire in Texas, Zips Chocolate Chip returned home to Myers Farm in 2013 where he spent the final years of his retirement at his birthplace and true home.

Although Zips Chocolate Chip is gone, he will not be forgotten. His memory lives on through his countless champion offspring and one particular son that hopes to carry on his father’s legacy. Fiesta Fudge is looking to continue baking up chocolate chips in his father’s memory, where he stands at DeGraff Stables in Kentucky.

Our condolences go out to the Myers family, stallion managers Joe and Suzy Jeane, longtime trainer Cleve Wells, Bob and Ann Perry, and others who were touched by the life of this exceptional stallion, horse, and friend.

Rest In Peace
