As a little girl growing up in Placerville, California, Loni Brewster’s only connection to horses was through a babysitter who rode with Casey and April Devitt. But that was enough. The tiniest nudge became a full-blown passion, and little Loni set her mind to making her dream of horse ownership come true.

Sure enough, Loni eventually convinced her parents to buy a horse named Platinum Page from a local barn, and the pair made their show pen debut at local open shows. Soon, under April’s guidance, she made her first appearances at Quarter Horse shows.

“I was a horse crazy teenager. I never played any sports; I just lived and breathed for the next horse show,” Loni recalls. Weekend after weekend, she and the Devitts would load up Page and head to the next show, eventually qualifying for the Youth World Show. She won Trail at that show in 1997 and won the NYATT Showmanship at the Congress in 1998. Throughout her youth career, the Devitts were the constant. Wherever they were, if horses were involved, Loni was there, too. The three became so close, April would even jokingly call Loni her own kid.

“As a youth exhibitor, Loni de-monstrated exceptional dedication and never shied away from hard work. Her desire to win was evident. We spent countless hours and traveled many miles together, always enjoying the journey despite the ups and downs,” April recalls.
