The moment I saw you, my heart whispered, ‘that’s the one.’– Unknown.

Every horse person dreams of that moment of knowing they’ve found just the right one.  That particular instance, when it happened between prominent exhibitor Amanda Smith and Two-Year-Old AQHA stallion KASH MONEY, couldn’t have been more poignant.

“Historically, my husband, Tim, and I have talked about and expressed an interest in owning a stallion in order for us to grow within the horse industry,” explains Amanda, who reveals she’d heard about a special horse from Scott Suggs, and she felt instantly intrigued. The horse she wanted to learn more about, fondly called “Kash,” is by Hot N Blazing and out of Just Like June, bred by Wayne and Judy Davis of Florida.

“Coincidentally, I was in Florida at the same time Scott was there to see Kash, so I asked if I could join him,” she says. “Upon seeing Kash, he surpassed all the praise Scott had given him and then some. After taking a ride on him, I was completely captivated and knew I had to have him. I quickly called my husband and said, ‘This is the one.’”

Though the opportunity had happened when they least anticipated it, explains Amanda, “everything fell into place so perfectly that it felt destined. The individuals involved in this horse’s journey are incredible, and I couldn’t have wished for a better team supporting Kash’s future.”

Scott provides some background on the talented stallion: “When Katy Jo Zuidema told me she had a very special colt bred by her dad and Judy, I knew he had to be as excited as she was. Then I got to see him and was in awe at how incredible he really is. He’s a once in a lifetime kind of horse and I’m incredibly grateful to Tim and Amanda for letting me be part of his career and Katy Jo, Wayne, Judy, and Tim for being so great to work with.”

Katy Jo’s enthusiasm about Kash that relayed to Scott and to Amanda is well-founded.  “For me Kash is the total package, and he has been since the day he was born,” Katy Jo explains. “He was always different. He does every gear, he’s stunning, he’s smart and kind, easy to ride, he’s made great, and he even x rays great. All those things are so important in a breeding horse. They’re the exact qualities we should want to reproduce, not to mention that he’s bred pretty different. In a world where we’re breeding these things more and more the same, it’s nice to have some old school blood in there. I mean we have Blaze, Detail, Jack Bar, and Zippo Pine Bar right there on his papers. I think that’s cool.”

“Kash,” is by Hot N Blazing, and his dam is Just Like June, pictured above.  June is by a son of Last Detail.

Katy Jo will be in the irons when Kash makes his debut at the 2025 All-American Quarter Horse Congress in the 2-year-old Maiden Hunter Under Saddle in October. “In 2026, we will show him in all the majors in the 3-year-old open hunter under saddle and non pro events,” says Amanda.

Most of all, Amanda expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Scott Suggs and Katy Jo Zuidema for their dedication to making the dream a reality. “Additionally, I want to express my gratitude to Wayne and Judy Davis for breeding and raising Kash. And, of course, a special thank you to my husband, Tim, for his constant support and enthusiasm.”
