The Iowa Quarter Horse Association just wrapped up their Mayflower Show, held May 1-4, 2025, at Jacobson Exhibition Center at Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa.
We have a special story coming soon from this show, so stay tuned to The Equine Chronicle for more!
The show offered four AQHA judges and two NSBA judges, plus all breed classes, with judges Gayle Lampinen, Rob Meneely, Gretchen Mathes, and Lora Knelly-Thomas.
Iowa QHA also promoted its ever-present sense of community with highlights like Mom and Dad Showmanship (see the champion pictured at the end of our story), an IQHYA pie and cake auction, a random trainer appreciation gift (congrats to John Konecne), and the presenting of the amateur sportsmanship award, won by Sarlynn Heston.
One of their steadfast exhibitors, Duane Van Horn, is also still showing there at age 93, “still jogging along and winning,” says Jennifer Horton of bar H Photography.
