“There have been about 18,000 graduates from our High School and about 5 people are nominated to the Hall Of Fame each year. Vince Gill is a 1975 graduate, and most inductees are scientists, doctors, governors, etc… People that have done something significant in their lives, so it is odd that I am receiving it for my horse winnings and breeding all these years, but I am proud of it.” ~Annee Miller.
Press release from Northwest Classen High School:
Anneene Keen (Miller) — 1966 Graduate of Northwest Classen High School
In many ways Annee was a typical student – active in pep club, gifted in the classroom, and a member of the yearbook staff before graduating in 1966. Outside the classroom Annee worked various jobs and did modeling to support her “Horse Habit.” Annee acquired her first horse at the age of ten, raised her first registered foal at fourteen, and after selling that foal, she used the proceeds to purchase her own horse trailer at age 16. Annee’s college years were spent pursuing a degree in Business Education at the University of Central Oklahoma, obtaining her Private Pilots License (1970), and working as a Stewardess for Mid America Airways while continuing to raise and show quarter horses.
After graduation from college Annee moved to Vail, Colorado. Annee taught Business Education at Minturn High School, a small mining town near Vail. She also became very involved in car racing and received her Regional License to race Formula Fords. Life changing events came about, and she ended up moving to Denver and becoming the owner of Chamber Horse Antiques and Stained Glass, also building custom stained glass windows for clients. She was active in Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association still breeding, raising, and showing quarter horses there in Colorado until 1983 when she relocated to Oklahoma. She acquired her Masters Degree in Gifted Education from Oklahoma City University in 1985, and became the teacher of Gifted Children from 1985 until 2001 at Mustang School District in Mustang, Oklahoma. During all that time she was still passionate about breeding and raising and showing her horses. She raised several that went on to future Stardom in the AQHA Quarter Horse World. During that time she also received her Masters’ Degree in School Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1995.
Annee has raised registered quarter horses for 63 years to date. Now Annee and her husband own Starland Ranch that has raised multiple horses that have become International Champions, AQHA Champions, NSBA Champions, and have achieved World Championships as well as Congress Championships and Reserve Congress Championships. Her notoriety comes from raising World Class Pleasure Horse Champions.
As well as raising so many horses that have gone on to be great winners, she has acquired eight World Championships, a Congress Championship and several Reserve Championships herself. She also was National High Point Amateur Western Pleasure rider in 2020 for Western Pleasure with the National Snaffle Bit Association, and American Quarter Horse Association. She also received the award in 2020 for breeding and raising the High Point Western Pleasure Horse in the nation.
Starland Ranch is now one of the premier breeders for Western Pleasure Horses.
Congratulations, Anneene, from the Equine Chronicle! You may be surprised, but we think we’re safe to say the rest of us are not. You have our utmost respect and appreciation.
