The equestrian life goes through cycles. Most horse-loving parents started out as horse-obsessed kids who developed a love for the sport during childhood.
As they grow older, get married, and become parents, priorities transition to giving their own children the opportunity to experience the joy of showing horses. For many Masters Amateur competitors, once the kids go to college, it’s time to take back the reins and make a return to the show pen.
That’s certainly the case with APHA exhibitor Rachel Goffard, who has recently taken over showing Candy Confidential from her daughter, Emma Goffard. Just a few months ago, Rachel showed “Finnaroo” to win the Masters Amateur High Point at the APHA World Show under the guidance of the Goffard family’s longtime trainer, Shannon Watters.
But Rachel’s trip to the winner’s circle didn’t happen overnight. She’s been showing horses since she was nine years old.
