Cinco de Mayo isn’t the day of independence for Mexico, a common misconception. Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday celebrating the Mexican army’s victory of France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. That happened on May 5, 1862.
According to the History Channel, “The day, which falls on Monday, May 5 in 2025, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican American populations.”
In honor of Cinco De Mayo, we share a few photos of Hynoon Pistolero, an Arenosa also registered as a miniature horse with the AMHR and PtHA. “Pistol” had spent Cinco de Mayo having fun with kids at a benefit foster children (don’t worry – it’s washable paint), and he got to enjoy some yummy ice cream.
