Sincerest Condolences Following Passing of APHA National Director, Sandy Read

Sandy owned 21 Paint Horses during her lifetime and bred 15 Paints. Several mounts—including the successful show horses: 
– Robins Expression, earner of 584 points and an APHA world championship in Youth Western Pleasure
– Sheza Pepper, earner of 85 Amateur points with Sandy, along with 160 Open points and an APHA Champion title
– Too Sexy Formyspot, a multiple world and reserve world champion and earner of more than 1,850 APHA points

NSBYA Spotlight on SOQHA Challenge Scholarship Program

In the last seven years, 64 scholarships have been awarded to the 14-18, 13 and under, level 1, and small fry High Point and Reserve winners. Starting in 2013, and changing in 2016, the amounts of the awards were increased and a second chance scholarship was added. Winners of the 14-18 and 13 and under now get $1,500, while the reserve gets $1,000. In the remaining divisions, the winner gets $1,000 and the reserve gets $500.

Along with heart rate (pulse) and respiratory rate, rectal temperature is one of the “vital signs” that can alert us to the presence of disease. Ideally temperature should be measured regularly – both to get the horse used to the procedure and to establish what is normal for that individual.
