The conclusion of the APHA Convention kicks off an exciting new leadership year for Paint Horse enthusiasts, and new standing committee appointments for 2018 were announced this week.

Comprised of APHA members from around the United States, Canada and international affiliates, APHA’s standing committees serve as advisory groups for association rules and planning, in keeping with the association’s mission of promoting, preserving and providing meaningful experiences with Paint Horses.

Equine Experiences Committee

Drawing directly from the APHA mission statement, Executive Committee members formed a new committee of national directors focused solely on encouraging interactions with Paint Horses with recreational riders and horse community newcomers.

“The landscape of the world has shifted dramatically in the last decade, and fewer people hail from rural backgrounds that inherently lead to horse encounters,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “That doesn’t mean, though, that people aren’t craving the kind of incredible animal connections found so often with horses; it’s our job to find new ways to foster the kinds of experiences that get people hooked on our incredible Paint Horses for life.”

The purpose of the Equestrian Experience committee is to promote and provide educational experiences for all those interested in Paint Horses in a non-competitive, family-oriented atmosphere. This committee will review, recommend and assist in the promotion of experiences related to the Paint Horse. This committee functions in an advisory-only capacity with the exception of any powers delegated by the Executive Committee.

The Equestrian Experiences Advisory Committee joins 11 other advisory committees charged with keeping the pulse of various areas of the APHA community and making recommendations for enhancements. Those committees are: Amateur, Breed Integrity/Registration, General Show & Contest, Foundation, International, Judges, Long Range Planning, Professional Horsemen, Racing, Regional Clubs and Youth.
