Waco, TX- The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has announced its November Standout Student-Athlete of the Month. Every month the NCEA recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in the ring, however the NCEA would like to highlight athletes on their outstanding performances out of the ring, including academics, philanthropy, outstanding attitude, and embodiment of an ideal teammate.

Name of Athlete: Kate Eagleton

School & Year: University of South Carolina, Class of 2019

Hometown & Major: Miami, FL | Visual Communications

Highlighted Accomplishments:

Kate has been active in community service this semester, contributing over 100 hours of community service. She has fostered five dogs and one kitten through an organization called Pawmetto Lifeline, and coordinated the team’s Christmas stuffed animal drive, which benefitted underprivileged children. She also helped host children through the team’s Curing Kids Cancer events at One Wood Farm.

ShortysIn addition to that time, she has been instrumental in rehabbing an injured horse, Volan. She works many extra hours riding Volan voluntarily on a daily basis to make sure he heals from an injured stifle. Because of Kate’s work, Volan is healthy and will be back in the lineup in January.

Kate has attained a 4.0 GPA in each of her five collegiate semesters and is the recipient of multiple merit-based scholarships. She was named the athletic department’s Academic Athlete of the Month for December and serves her fellow students as a member of the Student Government Association. She has served as SGA’s lead graphic designer, creating graphics to promote on campus activities, and her designs have also been used on Equestrian Team t-shirts and the Athletic Department Academic Honor Roll t-shirts.

In summation, Kate is always ready to step in and help the team, athletic department, Columbia community and University wherever she is needed. She is not afraid to get into the weeds, and she has a heart for people that is contagious for all.
