The first halter win of the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress goes to Dewey Smith with PF Thatsmschrometou for Chester and Anne Prince of Palmetto, FL. The beautiful filly by the Princes’ young stallion, Chromed Up, was just one of the many by that bloodline that peppered the placings.

“We had a total of five entered in the class and, out of that, three of them were shown by the amateur owners; it was pretty exciting that we ended up with so many horses in the top,” Ann Prince says. “Not only did we have the winner, we had all top five in the Futurity, three of them made the top three in the limited, and a slightly different set of horses made the top three, including the winner, in the open. For a young sire, with only his second foal crop on the ground, that speaks volumes about him.”

The 2013 AQHA mare Prince fondly calls the “Pepper filly” is out of That’s Miss Pizazz to You, a new addition to the broodmare band at Prince Farm, LLC.

“She’s kind of a new mare to our breeding program, and it’s just the perfect cross,” Prince says. “[Her daughter] is just a strong filly with a beautiful head and neck, who’s really great over her top, pretty-crouped, and pretty-hocked. You can already see her as a grown mare.”

“She’s a really sweet filly to be around. She’s made herself into a natural show horse. She uses herself with lots of natural expression in the pen. We’ve been very successful with her. She’s done well in Iowa and at the WCHA Futurity as well.”

The Prince partnership has two more horses that will compete today in the Yearling Mares and Two-Year-Old Mares. They’re looking forward to tomorrow when their now three-year-old stallion, PF Premo, will return to defend his Grand Champion placing from last year.

“Tomorrow is a pretty exciting day for us because our stallion that stood Grand Champion here last year in the Amateur and Reserve in the Open is back,” she says. “He looks, in my opinion, the best he ever has. His first foal crop is coming this year.”

Prince3Reserve in the class was Ross Roark with Sinceerly for Josh Weakly. Rounding out the top three was Randy Jacobs with Shez That Girl. Winning the limited division of the class was Justin Bisel with Sheza Starlet Hit. The Reserve Champion was Phillip Wilkinson with Shes Very Cool. Third place was Donald Griffey with Seniom Sed.

Smith and Roark also took the top two places in the Futurity portion of the class, which was sponsored by The Equine Chronicle, with a total purse of $11,000. Smith received $3,000 for first place.
