Today wraps up the end of Open Halter classes here at the APHA World Show, with the exception of Performance Halter, which will take place next week. Also on the schedule at this fast-paced show has been Trail, Showmanship, Western Riding, and Hunter Under Saddle classes in Open, Amateur, and Youth divisions.

Continue reading …This is both Melody and Alyssa’s first time competing at the APHA World Show, and they admit that it’s a bit nerve-wracking, but today’s result couldn’t have been better. Alyssa’s main goal for this class was to remember her pattern. “I think my extended trot, walk, and 360 after the judge was really good,” she says. “Showmanship is my favorite class, because she’s really good at this class, and she’s a very good listener.”
Continue reading …12-year-old Anna lead 9-year-old “Zeke” to their third World Championship title of the horse show. Their other two came in Walk Trot Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation. They also won two Reserve titles at the Pinto World Show last week. “He’s been a really good boy at these shows. He listens well and is very calm.”
Continue reading …“We started really hitting it hard the past two months and taught her how to change leads three weeks ago. That’s the first time I’ve changed a lead on her in a pattern at any horse show.”
Continue reading …“She has taught me how to ride really well with my legs and how to be a more confident rider. You have to trust your horse and not just wait for the horse to mess up. You need to get to know your horse 110% before you go into the pen.”
Continue reading …Ady resides in Canada and her trainers, Arturo Maestas and Jesse Jones, live in Texas. Prior to the pandemic, Ady would fly down once a month to train. That all stopped in 2020, when the U.S./Canadian border effectively shut down. Although restrictions have loosened in the U.S. in recent months, the situation is still fairly closed in Canada, which made the trip to Fort Worth a bit tricky. Ady and her mother flew into the States two weeks ago and underwent COVID testing. Once they return to Canada, they will have more tests and spend a two-week quarantine in a hotel. But tonight’s big win with a huge cheering section of supporters behind her made all of the logistical challenges well worth it.
Continue reading …“Four years ago, we didn’t have a great AQHA World Show, and it really shook my confidence,” she says. “Previously, we’d won Equitation Over Fences and Amateur Working Hunter. He’s been turned out for four years since then. This was kind of a big heart moment for us. I got him up about six weeks ago, and we started putting the pieces back together.”
