
NSBA announced yesterday that the 4-year-old AQHA gelding, Made N The Shade, is the 2017 NSBA Horse of the Year. “Mikey” accumulated 78 points and earned $40,560.99 in earnings in Western Pleasure classes on his way to achieving this prestigious title.

Ultimately, upwards of 500 horses were evacuated to the fairgrounds. That week would also see 15 members of the Livestock Herd Health Service and the Livestock Medicine Service join the efforts at the Sonoma and Solano County Fairgrounds and the Napa High School Vintage Farm evacuation centers.

Formerly known as the Turkey Circuit, the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association Spring Into Action Show benefited on three counts from a name change, date change, and location change. There were a whopping 33 competitors in L1 Youth Horsemanship, 30 in 14-18 Horsemanship, and 27 in L1 Youth Showmanship.

Nancy Sue purchased Mag’s grandmother, a Thoroughbred named Wahoo Baby, for $900 at a kill sale back in the 1990s. Years later, that mare’s offspring have gone on to earn in excess of $500,000. One of those offspring was Luke Whoo, a mare that would provide Nancy Sue with a very special colt she describes as her favorite.
