The Rising Star Futurity

This futurity will be a subsidiary of the very successful WCHA Breeder’s Championship Futurity Program and will be held within the Halter Million format in Fort Worth, Texas the last week of September. What’s unique about the Rising Star Program is that it’s structured to showcase offspring sired by stallions who have NOT YET sired a World Champion halter horse within AQHA, APHA or ApHC. “For the past few years we’ve had over 80 stallions enrolled in our Breeder’s Championship Futurity” states Futurity Manager/Executive Director Don Falcon. “Of these 80+ stallions, I estimate at least 50 have never sired a world champion yet, for a variety of reasons. Their stallion might be young and just starting to breed mares, it could be a stallion whose owners don’t stand him to the public or aren’t set up to promote or breed a large number of mares, etc. All of our halter stallions are bred “in the purple”, most have had very successful show careers but now need an opportunity where each stallion’s offspring can have the spotlight.”

WCHA hosts 3 major halter futurity programs: The WCHA Breeder’s Championship, The Big Money and The Yellow Rose Futurities plus two junior weanling classes held within the AQHA World Show. These futurities pay out over $1,000,000 annually. “We’ve structured our futurities with many divisions so that competitors of all ages and skill levels have opportunities to compete fairly and successfully. We have open,non pro, color, intermediate non pro and owner/breeder/exhibitor incentives in addition to limited stakes classes for older age horses. We are always looking for gaps in our program, where one piece is lacking incentives. That’s why we want to lend a hand to these stallion owners in promoting their up and coming stallions.” The objective is to give these rising stallions an avenue to showcase their offspring. The Rising Star Futurity will be a stepping stone to successful breeding careers of these stallions and dreams fulfilled.

WCHA strives to keep stallion enrollment fees to a minimum in comparison to other major programs regardless of discipline so that stallion owners aren’t overburdened financially to support the entire program. The enrollment fee for the WCHA Breeder’s Futurity is a flat rate $1,000 with over 80 stallions, the Big Money Futurity for non pro exhibitors is only $1500 and has over 70 stallions enrolled, and finally the Yellow Rose Stallion Enrollment is only $250 with over 50 stallions. Stallion enrollment for 2024 is now open and we also offer a pay half now, the remaining balance by June 1st at no penalty.

The Rising Star Program is simple and straightforward:

• Open to stallions who have not yet sired a world champion halter horse within AQHA-APHA-ApHC.
• Introductory Stallion Enrollment Fee of only $250 for 2024!
• As with all WCHA futurity programs stallions enroll each year so that all offspring are eligible the same year stallion is enrolled.
• Because this is a part of the WCHA Breeder’s Futurity Program all stallions must also be enrolled within the Breeder’s Championship Futurity.
• This first year two “all age weanling classes will be offered this fall
• All Age Weanling Fillies
• All Age Weanling Colts
• If either class exceeds 40 entries at time of check in on September 23rd that class will be split into a junior and senior division.
• Offspring of stallions enrolled in the Rising Star Futurity Program must also be nominated prior to entering the class.
• Entry Forms into these classes will be posted early spring.

Depending on the participation within this program additional classes may be added in the future.
