Texas Paint Horse Club Awards $35,000 in Scholarships at Paint The Future

Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News,Featured |

The Texas Paint Horse Club just finished up its “Paint The Future” 4-Judge POR, April 6-9, 2023, at Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.  It was approved by APHA and TPHC, and judges were Nancy Wright (NSBA), Kevin Hood, Jill Paxton (NSBA), and Terry Thompson.

It was also the 10th Anniversary of the show!

The big standout from the show, in addition to all the fantastic competition, is the youth scholarship program.

This year, the club awarded 92 scholarships at the show, and they raised $35,000 to do it.  The scholarship program is quite inventive, too, with the scholarships managed carefully by the club’s scholarship committee.

“The youth have to be a member of our club and if they lease a horse, it must be on record by March 1,” explains Sandy DuBose, Committee Chairman.

“The money they win is deposited into an account. When they graduate from high school, they can go on our website, complete a form, and the money will be sent to their choice of higher education. The scholarship money won can be used to pay toward universities or trade schools.”

She also explains that to date, the club has covered all administrative costs. “One of the best things about the way we choose the winners is that first and second automatically win a scholarship. Then we have a random draw winner – it can be third place or last place or anything in between. This creates a great deal of goodwill because everyone has a chance to win.”

Sandy says she was concerned the economy would affect their donations this year, and though it was a slow start, as always, their members came through.  “We raised a record $35,000! With this amount we were able to award 92 scholarships. Our generous members are what make this program work so well. Texas Paint Horse Club has some of the most caring and generous members.”

On a personal note, Sandy says they have the best kids in their youth group. “I’m so happy that you will feature them. Love, love, love helping our youth.”

A special thank you to Sandy DuBose who painstakingly sent us many emails to provide readers with a sampling of the 92 scholarship winners! Now that is love.

Now for many of the 92 scholarship winners! We may have missed a few in our photo transfer, but you can see them all at the “Texas Paint Horse Club” Facebook page, thanks to Rhonda Culp and Sandy DuBose. Congratulations to everyone!
