Visitors to the 2014 APHA World Championship Show are being treated to some impressive Halter classes this morning, with many in boasting entries in the double digits. First, the Weanling Mares class saw 23 entries, the Solid Paint-Bred Weanling Mares had 19 entries, and the Yearling Mares has 21 entries.

To kick off the morning, Tim Finkenbinder led Im Secretly A Cowgirl to her second World Championship title of the horse show in Weanling Mares. Just a few days ago, owner Anita Wiescamp led “Rayna” to a win in the Amateur Weanling Mares class.

“We bought this filly at the Iowa Breeders Futurity,” Finkenbinder says. “We spotted her up there, Anita was looking for a world-class filly, and I really liked her. She is by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of a daughter of RH Imprinted. That’s another reason why I bought her; I really liked her pedigree. It really fit the way she looked.”

Now that Rayna has done her job, winning two World Champion titles here at the World Show, the plan is to show the filly sparingly in 2015 at the majors before returning to defend her title back in Fort Worth next November. Eventually, after her show career has concluded, Finkenbinder can see this prospect going on to becoming an excellent broodmare.

“I’m excited about her,” Finkenbinder says. “Usually, a lot of people are a little scared of the babies, but I think she is going to get better and better [as she gets older].”

As a handler, Finkebinder is very busy today at the World Show. He will show a two-year-old mare, 3-year-old mare, aged mare, and a yearling solid paint-bred mare today before heading up to the AQHA World Championship Show on Monday. Also, we’d like to wish Wiescamp the best of luck in her Showmanship class today as well!

Following an impressive Weanling Mares class, Ted Turner led Dominant Equilibrium to a win in Solid Paint-Bred Weanling Mares. The Reserve Champion in the class was Jason Smith with My Memmories. Third place was Trisha Shorten-Armstrong with Pretty Sweet Sirprize.
