Missouri Paint Horse Club

The Missouri Paint Horse Club (MPHC) has been very active over the past several years in getting new members to join and participate in the club. This year was no exception. The club initiated a Rookie Program wherein any rider who had never earned national points in any recognized breed show is eligible to participate. The program is open to both youth and amateurs.

The qualifications are simple: obtain an APHA novice card (youth or amateur) and become a member of the club. For all participants in the Rookie Program, MPHC paid entry fees for all youth walk-trot, amateur walk-trot, novice youth, novice amateur classes, and respective halter classes. The rookies pay for MPHC office charges, stall fees, and entry fees for any open, amateur or youth classes that they choose to enter.

In addition,  rookies pay a horse nomination fee if they want to qualify for Rookie of the Year awards. Rookies are eligible to participate for the entire MPHC show season. Rookie of the Year awards will be awarded to High Point Walk-Trot Rookie and High Point Novice Rookie (youth and amateur combined).

This year, MPHC has nine active rookies participating in the program. It has been a great success and these new members have jumped in and become active members of the club, not only by attending all shows but also by participating in the club and its fundraisers. Just recently, the club had their annual Show Me Shootout where the youth club had a 50/50 raffle and dessert auction to raise money for the MjPHC scholarship fund.  A good amount of the monies raised was donated by these new rookie members and their families. Even as late as our Labor Day show, MPHC still had new rookies attending the show.

The Rookie Program has opened the door for many participants who have never before attended a breed show. MPHC welcomes these rookies and plans on continuing with the Rookie Program for the 2015 show season.
