They always say, if you love something, let it go.
As I sit here typing with tears running down my face, I know deep down that you are no longer in pain, and you are no longer suffering. Today, I made the decision to do something I hoped I would never have to do.
As I laid beside you when you took your last breath, I realized that every breath I take is for you. I saw the pain leave your eyes, but I hope I forever stay in your heart. I hope your soul can run and play and eat all the treats you want. I hope they have plenty of water buckets up there for you to dunk your hay in.
Mouse, you gave me the best 10 years of my life, and memories that will forever be a part of me. You made all my dreams come true. You made me the person and the rider I am today. They say you have one horse that changes your life, but you were my life, my best friend, and my partner that I could always count on to carry me. You are irreplaceable and will always hold a special place in my heart. You had the biggest heart of any other animal I’ve ever known, and the strongest will to live, and I’m sorry that it was finally time to say goodbye.
I will forever be thankful that I was the little girl that got to love you. I can honestly say I knew you like the back of my hand; the quirks, the little things that you loved, and the ones you hated. You always had your ears up, so I never really knew when you were going to spook, unless I saw a stroller; then I knew.
I will never forget the day I met you for the first time. 2016, I was in the camper at the congress, and my grandma came in and said, “Guess what?” and I said, “What’s that?” and then she told me I was trying out a new horse. I became intrigued so I asked what horse it was. she said, “The bay Moonlite of Lacy Watson’s.”
I remember crying and running up her and hugging her and saying thank you repeatedly. we met Ashley down at the Denny Hales Arena and there you stood, this tall, beautiful bay. I climbed on and I remembered telling Ashley that I hope I don’t mess you up. From the first ride I knew you would be a great show partner, but little did I know you would become my heart horse. The way I could calm my mind down by just going in your stall and sitting with you. You would always come up to me and lay beside me.
We have definitely been on a roller coaster of highs and lows through our time together. we have won so many things together and were a well oiled machine. The time we had to scratch at the youth world after making the finals because you popped an abscess, or the time I lunged you and you nearly cut your own foot off.
After all the times of fear and you getting hurt, I never questioned that you would be back. you were seriously the strongest willed animal I have ever seen, but this time, your body had enough. I know life is going to be hard going through without you but just know you will forever hold the biggest piece of my heart. There will never ever be another like you, and no other horse will ever fill your shoes. I love you forever buddy, rest easy mousers.

He was the most special thing I have ever had in my life. He was an “all time favorite” to many people and we were a dynamic duo.
