The American Quarter Horse Association recently announced the rest of the Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenges slated for 2015.

  • September 3 – Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colorado
  • September 19 – Tri-State Fair in Amarillo
  • September 26 – National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, Nevada
  • October 14 – Northern International Livestock Expo in Billings, Montana

The first two Zoetis Ranching Heritage Challenges of 2015 took place January 15 at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo and March 22 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Ranching Heritage Challenges highlight the versatility, soundness and willing attitude of American Quarter Horses that are ranch-born and -raised. During these competitions, classes are limited to riders on horses bred by AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders – breeders who have been breeding American Quarter Horses for at least 10 years and whose horses are primarily bred to work cattle on a cow-calf ranch.

“The Ranching Heritage Breeder program recognizes AQHA’s ranching members who have continued to maintain the ranching tradition,” said Charlie Hemphill, AQHA director of shows and new events. “The challenges showcase ranch-raised horses while offering significant purses and prizes.”

The Ranching Heritage Challenge consists of three classes: working ranch horse, boxing and ranch riding. The classes are offered to different levels of riders and ages of horses. Purses are generated from a nomination payment, along with sustaining payments made by the new owner of the horses.

AQHA appreciates the generous support of Zoetis, Bar G Feedyards, Double J Saddlery and Professional’s Choice for supporting these Ranching Heritage events.
