He was the president and director of the Alberta Quarter Horse Association for many years and a director at large of AQHA. Jim was a founding member of the Team Cattle Penning Association of Alberta. Even when he could no longer ride on a team with his family, he enjoyed watching them compete. He was very proud of his grandchildren and all of their many accomplishments.

In addition to judging the All American Quarter Horse Congress, Snyder was an AQHA judge for almost 40 years. He was also involved in the APHA, Pinto and Palomino breed associations.

He served as President of the PtHA from 2004-2006.
