Neither of these equestriennes are strangers to the winner’s circle; however, tonight’s performance marked a notable first for each. This is Mary Katherine’s first World Show competing with “Rodney” and her first AjPHA Youth World Championship title earned. Olivia and “Brett” have won Novice Youth Horsemanship and 13 and Under Horsemanship, but this was their first time receiving a buckle in the 14-18 division.

In Novice Youth Horsemanship 13 and Under, Karlee Shiery rode her colorful gelding, TC Hummer, to her first AjPHA Youth World title. Both Karlee and “Hummer” are 12 years old. They currently compete under the guidance of trainer Heather Brower and have done so for six years.

Last night, the World Champ and Reserve World Champ had a sleepover where they made a plan for a simultaneous victory lap. “We planned this about two weeks ago. In Trail, I was going to win first and she was going to win second and we each would do our victory laps together.”

“Eddie’s a super pretty mover, so that alone helps him change leads. He’s super smooth and really easy to navigate through a Western Riding pattern. I’m really so blessed to have him.”

While most people around the country are enjoying family barbecues, parades, and fireworks this Fourth of July, AjPHA competitors are taking on lope pinwheels, trot serpentines, and other complex maneuvers during a challenging Robert Dehn Trail course.

“During this particular pattern, Lucie focused on portraying confidence, hitting her marks, and keeping transitions smooth and fluid. “Sara said my horse would be there for me, and I needed to do my part, which was to show.”

The tiniest of competitors here at the 2016 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show stole the show today in Fort Worth, Texas. But don’t let their diminutive size fool you. These serious competitors mean business.
