“We have a lot of the same riders that we had last year, but it’s a horse show so anything can happen,” Zimmerman said. “They came in with their A-game. They had the mindset and the technique and the tools. It was a lot of fun to see.”

The Purina Ranch Challenge will include Ranch Riding, Ranch Rail, and Conformation with $2,500 in added money. The event will take place Friday, May 24, 2019 beginning at 6:00 pm at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, MO. There will be $1,500 added money in the open, $500 added money in the amateur, and $500 added money in the youth. 

“It was out of the goodness of her heart because we were competitors. We were very friendly to each other, but we were competitors,” Sams said. “She gave me something that I had worked so hard for. And for her to give me that opportunity–it was awesome. And now I have a great friendship.”

When asked what she enjoys most about showing, Silver says, “Since we started working together this year, I appreciate how patient he is and how he is always willing to try new things. I can’t wait to see how we do this year.”

As part of the 2019 APHA Youth World Championship Show in Fort Worth, Texas, APHA will host a Jr American Super Qualifier July 6-7. Events will include team roping, calf roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and steer wrestling.

Equine Affaire also hosted its annual Versatility Horse & Rider Competition on Friday, April 12, judged by Jason Irwin and announced by Steve Lantvit. During the competition, twenty-three horse-and-rider pairs competed for more than $5,500 in prize money. Competitors raced the clock while tackling such challenging activities as batting a large ball out of a child’s pool with a broom, retrieving a flag, crossing a narrow wooden bridge, and leading their blindfolded horses through a short course. Seasoned VHRC competitor Brenda Hanson clinched the championship with her 7-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, PVF Frosted Ace.

The American Quarter Horse Association is offering a third way for amateur, select, and open exhibitors to qualify their halter horses for AQHA world championship shows*.

Exhibitors at the Nutrena East AQHA Level 1 Championships saddled up their American Quarter Horses on May 1 for the opening day of competition at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio. The show kicked off at 8 a.m. with Rookie youth ranch riding in the R+L Arena West and Rookie amateur ranch riding in the R+L Arena East.
