This regional championships features four days packed with a variety of classes, starting with reining at 7:30 a.m. on June 15 in the Amarillo National Center at the Tri-State Fairgrounds. Now until September 30, 2016, stallions can be subscribed to the Breeders’ Trust for 1.5 times their highest advertised stud fee—if your stallion’s stud fee is $600, for example, the subscription fee would be $900. Subscribing your stallion to the Breeders’ Trust makes all of his 2017 foals eligible for Breeders’ Trust nomination, giving them opportunity to earn cash back for APHA points earned in most Open and Amateur events and access to APHA’s lucrative Breeders’ Futurity events.

“The four-year-old futurity horse concept has been discussed by good horsemen and breeders for years,” says Amanda Brumley, whose company produced the Wild Card Reining Challenge. “This show should challenge other horsemen to provide more opportunities for young horses that need extra time to mature, train and prepare for competitive reining, both physically and mentally.”

Voting will be conducted using an online system June 22–29; all current AjPHA national directors are asked to vote.

The weather has been simply beautiful for this show. I wasn’t sure what Las Vegas offered this time of year, Heaven or Hades? Turns out it’s wonderful … weather in the seventies to low eighties with a sweet breeze through the big, west facing warm-up arena doors in the late afternoon.
