NSBA announced yesterday that the 4-year-old AQHA gelding, Made N The Shade, is the 2017 NSBA Horse of the Year. “Mikey” accumulated 78 points and earned $40,560.99 in earnings in Western Pleasure classes on his way to achieving this prestigious title.
Continue reading …On Feb. 21, DOT released two guidance documents that shed more light on the rule as it pertained to horses and agriculture. They also opened a comment section on their site and put out a call for questions and concerns, which will be used to develop a frequently asked question document. AHC expects 85% of the horse industry to be exempt from the ELD requirement once final clarifications are made.

The industry also provides a total employment impact of 1.74 million, and generates $79 billion in total salaries, wages, and benefits. The current number of horses in the United States stands at 7.2 million. Texas, California, and Florida continue to be the top three states with the highest population of horses.

Continue reading …Clarify the law so that both a quarter horse and the quarter horse race are BOTH registered with the AQHA. FQHRA’s position on current pari-mutuels is simple: just follow the law. If a quarter horse track has a permit to run 40 days of horse races, then they should be required to run the appropriate number of live races and not be rewarded with the ability to have card rooms or slot machines without following the intent and spirit of the law.
