What started with rain quickly turned into a beautiful day for participants to Battle for the Buckle at the 5th annual Congress Cup charity golf outing.

Organized by the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation and held at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club, the event not only provided a world-class experience, but also served as a means to generate funds for the annual Foundation scholarships. The Congress Cup event is generously sponsored by the Martz Family.

Rattlesnake Ridge provided the ideal backdrop for the day; a private course, renowned for its gorgeous landscapes and exceptional amenities. The outing saw a total of 24 registered teams and generous sponsorship support, both setting new records for the Congress Cup.  OQHF also welcomed special guests Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, Columbus Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Derrick Clay, and Ohio Expo Center Executive Director Adam Heffron, who all shared remarks during the awards presentation.

OQHA and Congress corporate partners were also well-represented, with delegates from Crown Royaldac Vitamins & MineralsDurango Boots, and Western Edge all in attendance.

The team from Wild Oats Farm, consisting of Greg Tordoff, Chad Kaiser, Mike Vargo, and Bob Lee took home this year’s prize: four custom Congress Cup Champion belt buckles from Montana Silversmiths, generously sponsored by 007 (Vargo Ranch). Recognizing individual competition winners, congratulations go out to the winner of the Closest to Pin, Bob Lee; Longest Drive, Ryan Troyer; and Longest Putt, Garrett Roberts. Winning the skins competition was the Wild Oats team, Modern Office Methods team, the dac Vitamins & Minerals team, and the Wilson team.

The Congress Cup’s overarching goal of supporting the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth members is what drives organizers, sponsors, and players alike. This year’s event raised $30,000 and will provide scholarships to many OQHYA members pursuing degrees in higher education in the upcoming year.

OQHA and its Foundation would like to thank all of the players and sponsors for their efforts in making this year’s Congress Cup one for the record books.
