WCHA Offers All Breed Versatility Competition; Entries Open

“Twenty to thirty years ago, our Quarter Horses, Paints, and Appaloosas, who were promoted as the most versatile horses in the world, competed in Halter in the morning and were then rode in Western Pleasure, Reining, Trail, and Roping events later in the day,” says Don Falcon, Executive Director of WCHA. “This is no longer the case because our Western disciplines have become very specialized because certain bloodlines excel in events that suit the owners and trainers that prefer a specific event. In an effort to bridge the gap between Halter bred horses and performance bred horses, we wanted to showcase the all-around equine athlete that could reach into all disciplines.”

Behind the Scenes of Budweiser’s Newest Clydesdale Commercial

The film crew used two main cameras, a drone and a chase car with a camera boom attached. The production crew spent hours matching both cameras to get the same angles of the hitch as it went down the road.”

Smart Spring Cleaning Tips For the Stable

The aforementioned Inflammatory Airway Disease study described wood shavings as much better than straw bedding, but “more is better” does not apply to shavings when it comes to clean stable air. People see a nice, cushy surface to support their horse’s sweet dreams, but the horse’s lungs see an onslaught of respiratory irritants that come with that deep bedding.

EIA Confirmed in Nine Quarter Horses in Texas

EIA is an incurable, infectious viral disease spread through blood-to-blood contact, not through close proximity or casual contact. The virus can be transmitted from an infected equine to a “clean” equine by biting flies, the use of unsterilized or contaminated medical instruments, or through a blood transfusion. The most common clinical sign of acute EIA is fever, which often precedes the development of other signs. In chronic cases, symptoms such as weight loss, weakness, anemia and swelling of the lower legs, chest and abdomen may occur.

Trailer Talk: Gooseneck Do’s and Dont’s

Not all gooseneck trailers will fit on today’s trucks. A gooseneck trailer must have 6′ or more from the top of the tailgate (top of the truck bed sides) to the bottom of the gooseneck when sitting level. Taller trucks may be too high to fit properly under a gooseneck trailer, especially goosenecks built before 2000.

In Loving Memory of Horse Show Mom, Jacquelyn Bedwell

“As many horse daughters must know, their biggest supporter is someone that really believes in you. In my case, it was my mom. She had a knack for always wiping my boots, brushing my horses tail out, and wiping his mouth before I entered the ring. It was like a ritual. While riding on course, you could hear her snapping her fingers to keep the steady rhythm. I will always cherish those special moments we shared.”
