Wednesday’s Around the Rings Photos and Results from 2022 AQHA West Level 1 Championship Show

Filed under: Around The Ring Galleries,Featured,Show Results & Gallery |

May 2022 marks the first time the Arizona Quarter Horse Association has hosted the AQHA West Level 1 Championship Show, and the show has been welcomed with open arms by exhibitors!

The Level 1 show coincides with AzQHA’s Pinnacle Circuit, and though May in Arizona can be a bit toasty at times, in an effort to offer a cool place to show for exhibitors, show producers inventively had two-three rings going at once in Westworld’s well-known North Hall, along with competition going on in the Equidome at the same time.

Numbers were big in Level 1 classes, upwards of 30 – 35 in some of today’s showmanship classes, and many Level 1 exhibitors were heard to say it was the first time they had tried a show of this caliber.

Wednesday’s Level 1 competition ranged from Showmanship to Reining to Ranch Riding to Western Riding, and below are a few highlights of today’s placings.

Wednesday morning in the Rookie Level 1 Amateur Showmanship at Halter, Michele Guerra and Good N Thirsty, aka Edward, cinched the championship from a class of 30! Michele used smart strategy to come out on top of her class, she explains.

“Today was good for us! We had lots of struggles and ups and downs,” Michele said tearfully, but they were tears of joy over achieving her goal with Edward.  “I had a couple of little errors in the class, and I just reminded myself that I needed to plus the next obstacle. So I just went out there and did everything I could, and he gave me everything he had today.”
