Around the Rings – Arizona Sun Circuit, March 6, 2023
Scott Reinartz was ranked #1 for Amateur Select Showmanship coming into this year’s National Championships competition at Sun Circuit! He was presented with an award recognizing the accomplishment after his Amateur Select Showmanship class.

Parris Rice with Its Southern Blues
Monday, March 6, 2023, at Scottsdale Arizona Sun Circuit’s 50th anniversary saw Western Riding, Trail, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Futurities for Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle, Cutting, Ranch Rail, Ranch Riding, Reining, Roping, and Cow Horse. At the end of the day, there were 7 arenas of competition!
In the Equine Chronicle Arena in L3 Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation, Parris Rice took top honors with Its Southern Blues, aka Nelson. He’s also known as “Blueberry” for his blue roan color. Parris says that she and her mom, trainer Carolyn Rice, bought Nelson as a yearling and she started showing him around age two in events like Showmanship. “He’s six now and officially a Senior horse,” says Parris.
Their pattern for the class had challenging maneuvers such as a two-track, a canter and a gallop, and Parris says it was a nice pattern. “For me personally, I was really happy with my two track,” she explains. “He moved off my leg really well, stepped right over stepped right into his canter and moved up to his gallop, so I was very happy with those pieces of it.”
For the remainder of the show, the team will continue Equitation, as well as Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Trail, plus Western Riding. Parris says her mom will also do the open events such as Trail and Western Riding.
