Around the Rings – AQHA L1 West Championships, Friday, May 19
Friday, May 19, 2023 at the AQHA L1 West Championships turned out to be a busy day for many exhibitors! Not only did some have Pinnacle Circuit classes, but they started off the day with L1 Championship Youth Trail and Western Riding in the Equidome, and L1 Championship Amateur Horsemanship and Western Pleasure in North Hall.
In the L1 Youth Trail 13 & Under, Hailey Brown showed Signature Absolute to a win complete with a gold trophy. She explains that moving up to 13 & Under this year has been difficult, but she’s thankful to have “Slate” in our EC TV video:

In the L1 Youth Western Riding 14-18, when the judges’ scores were submitted, Bailey Saenz with Take Me Home Tonite was tied with Shelby Risher with Oh So Original.
A rideoff followed, with both teams performing a second pattern beautifully. After the rideoff, the winner was Bailey Saenz! It was the first time Bailey had been asked to do a rideoff. “I was extremely nervous,” Bailey says, “and I felt like I had to do a lot better the second time!”
She’s only been doing Western Riding with Take Me Home Tonite, and now it’s one of her favorite classes, especially today. “I do like Western Riding,” she says. “It’s fun to change leads – you feel like you’re flying.”
