Around the Rings – 2024 AQHA West L1 Championship Show – Thursday, May 16
On Thursday at the 2024 AQHA West L1 Championship Show, Brooklyn Baker won a class of 27 Youth Walk Trotters, after two splits and a final.

In the final class of the day in the main arena, Katie Shepherd piloted Call Her Daddy, aka “Susie,” to a win in the L1 Amateur Western Riding, and her trainer, Jesse Jones, reveals it was their first western riding class!
Jesse explains this mare, “the perfect mare,” has been his open horse, and Katie adds, “I’ve only showed her in the Western Pleasure before this. This is our official debut.”
How did it feel to win in a debut? Katie reveals, “When you don’t know your score, it’s hard going into the placings, but it was very exciting!” For those attempting Western Riding as a discipline, Katie recommends patience, and to “try to relax as much as you can, because I get so nervous, but I do best when I’m relaxed mentally.”
