Non Pro riders are the backbone of the reining industry. They are the owners who invest in horses, the customers who support trainers and programs, and the competitors who balance careers, families, and responsibilities outside the arena while still committing countless hours to the sport. While they may not always receive the same level of attention as Open riders, their impact on reining is undeniable.
That importance continues to be reflected in the growth of the 𝐍𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 at 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧. In 2026, the added money for the Non Pro Challenge will increase to $𝟭𝟮𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬, a $50,000 jump that underscores the value of Non Pro competitors at the highest level of the sport.
To earn a spot in the exclusive Non Pro Challenge at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center, riders must first compete at one of the Semi-Finals qualifying events held throughout the United States and Europe. Riders placing in the Top Five at those events advance to the Semi-Finals, which is held in conjunction with the 6666 Ranch NRHA – National Reining Horse Association Derby presented by Markel Horse, scheduled for June in Oklahoma City.
From there, the top 30 riders from the Non Pro Semi-Finals, along with additional qualifiers from other continents, advance to The Run For A Million. The clean-slate format ensures that every rider enters the event on equal footing, reinforcing the focus on performance in the moment rather than prior earnings or reputation.
With increased added money and a format designed to highlight opportunity and accessibility, the Non Pro Challenge continues to reflect the vital role Non Pro riders play in the present and future of reining.
