Today’s EC Photo of the Day has very special meaning. Following AQHA’s announcement of the 2017 Year-End High Point and All-Around winners, which named Brandy Baldwin-Bunting as the AQHA All-Around Amateur, Gordon decided to do a little digging in his Equine Chronicle archives…
He remembered a few ads from almost 20 years ago that pictured the same beautiful, blonde Baldwin, who was, at that time, leading the nation with a horse named Wilee Stuff. Brandy and her horse appeared in the very first edition of The Equine Chronicle in 1998!
One ad, that appeared in our July/August 1999 edition showed Brandy and Wilee Stuff had qualified for seven events during their final year of youth competition and accumulated points in 12 events. At the time, she competed under the guidance of her mother, Chris Baldwin, and David Warner.
Then, fast forward to our September/October 1999 edition ad, and we learn that Brandy and Willee Stuff were still leading for the top All-Around Youth team in the nation following a very successful 1999 AQHA World Show where they placed fifth in Hunt Seat Equitation, fifth in Hunter Hack, seventh in Working Hunter, tenth in Showmanship, and 17th in Hunter Under Saddle. The team was heading into the Quarter Horse Congress that year with the plan to compete in nine classes, as well as NYATT Showmanship. That show season ended how many had suspected it might with a Youth All-Around title for Brandy and Wilee Stuff.
Now, 18 years later, Brandy has won the title again, in the amateur division with her horse, Ms Mae Flash.
A big congratulations goes to Brandy, and thanks for being an EC first edition!
