Animals that are exposed to the elements on the back of utility trucks may also suffer hyperthermia during hot conditions.”

Largest Single APHA Endowment Reaches $274,000- Rebecca Baker Youth World Show Endowment

Since 2015, the Rebecca Baker endowment has underwritten four scholarships each in three reining classes at the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, APHA’s all-scholarship horse show held each summer in Fort Worth, Texas. The added funds will allow the endowment to underwrite the scholarships for six classes at all future Youth World Championship Shows, beginning in 2018—that’s a total of 24 separate scholarship opportunities totaling $7,800 annually.

AHC to Offer “Operation Chip”- Microchipping Rescue Horses

“The industry as a whole is moving towards microchipping as the preferred method of identification,” said UHC Director Ashley Furst. “Initially, organizations hosting Operation Gelding clinics will be eligible to apply for microchips for Operation Chip. Eventually we hope to expand the program to be able to offer rescue organizations the opportunity to apply for just the chips to be inserted into the horses in their care. Microchipping horses in rescue organizations is one of the best ways to be able to track them through the system, as well as give the industry the ability to reunite them with their owner in the case of a natural disaster.”

Beginning in 2019, all paved parking spots will be paid. Unpaved spots will remain free. It is not known at this time what the charge will be for parking. Other upgrades will include increased security, more lighting, and buses for transportation.

Our Equine Chronicle family would like to extend prayers to a good friend of ours, Babs Bryant, as she is scheduled to undergo surgery this Friday. For the past three years, Babs has been battling stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Coming up tomorrow, she will be undergoing a major surgery to remove a cancerous area followed by chemotherapy.
