2013 NRHA Futurity Competition Update

December 1, 2013 – The first go-round of the nearly $500,000 added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Open Futurity ended today at the 2013 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show. Reining fans can enjoy the show until December 7 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.The high score (222.5) marked yesterday held through more than 100 runs from today’s section: Ref Magico (Big Chex To Cash x Skeets Genuine Miss) and NRHA Professional Jordan Larson. The 3-year-old stallion, owned by Rancho El Fortin of Del Rio, Texas, and Larson placed in the top ten at the 2013 Heritage Futurity.

The Wizster (Gallo Del Cielo x Miss Whizard Jac) and Dany Tremblay earned a 220 from the judges today to finish the go-round with the second-highest score in the level 4 open division and the highest score in the level 3 open division. The stallion, owned by MG Reiners (St. Paul, Quebec) has earned more than $18,000 this year including reserve championships in the level 4 and level 3 open divisions at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity, plus championships at the Aireau Pre-Futurity and Gunners Peppy Oak Snaffle Bit.

Several of the first go-round leading contenders are graduates of the NRHA / Markel Insurance Futurity Sales. Those graduates include:

  • Electric Express (Jacs Electric Spark x Hot Coded Candy) with Jared Leclair for owner Terry Ranch – earned a 221.5 for third in the level 4, second in the level 3 and first in the level 2 open division. The full-brother to Electric Code has earned nearly $40,000 in NRHA competition so far in his career.
  • Shiners Crown Jewel (Shining Spark x Cattilion) with Nathan Piper for owner John and Nancy Tague – earned a 221 for 8th place in the level 4 open division.
  • Walla Whiz Affair (Walla Walla Whiz x Memorable Affair) with Todd Bergen owner Xtra Quarter Horses, LLC – marked a 220.5 for 10th place in the level 4 open division. Walla Whiz Affair was the high seller in last year’s NRHA / Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale.
  • Custom Innovation (Custom Crome x Dry  Doc Bobbie) with Casey Deary for owner Amanda  Brumley – scored a 220 to land in the top 15 scores of the level 4 open division. The stallion has earned nearly $10,000 this year with strong showings at the High Roller Reining Classic Futurity and Heritage Futurity.
  • Electric Outlaw (Jacs Electric Spark x Docs Lil Bullet) with Gabe Hutchinsfor owner Darling 888 Ranch – received a 219 to finish in the top 30 of the level 4 open and top 15 of the level 3 open. So far this year, the stallion has won more than $12,500 including the level 3 open division co-championship at the Hollywoodstinseltown Futurity.

A portion of first go-round entries will move on to the second go-round as follows, with Saturday’s level 4 open division champion earning $165,000:

  • Level 4 open division – Top 200 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 209.5)
  • Level 3 open division – Top 150 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 209)
  • Level 2 open division – Top 100 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 208)
  • Level 1 open division – Top 100 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 173)

The second go-round begins on Monday, December 2 following the first go-round, first section of the $260,000 added Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity. The top horse-and-rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first and second go-round, will advance to the Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 7 where the winner of the level 4 open division will earn $165,000 as well as incredible prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and award sponsors. Nearly $100,000 in nominator incentive money also will be distributed to those individuals who originally nominated horses to the NRHA Nomination Program.
