$1,040,000 Was Awarded in 2012, Will You Get a Piece of the Pie at the Breeders Halter Futurity and National Halter Championship in 2013?

Filed under: Club & Show News |

Last year, the combination of the Breeders Halter Futurity and National Halter Championship resulted in the largest payout at a stand-alone, stock breed, halter horse event in the history of the industry with a whopping $1,040,000 being awarded to exhibitors.

Recently, we were able to chat with NHC Event Secretary Karen Kennedy who gave us the inside scoop on some of the exciting new changes in store for the event this year. But first, please take note of a few important scheduling details.

The National Halter Championship portion of the event will take place September 11th and 12th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The NHC Open classes are scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th, and the NHC Amateur classes are scheduled for Thursday, September 12th. The Breeders Halter Futurity classes will take place Friday through Sunday, September 13-15, at the same location. One again, the combined payout for the event is anticipated to be in excess of 1 million dollars.

One of the must-see events at the Breeders Halter Futurity will take place on Sunday, September 15th with the Amateur and Open 2-Year-Old classes. That’s because the Overall Amateur winner and Overall Open winner will each receive $100,000 and a custom Harris buckle, Kennedy says. That’s not a typo folks. Each overall winner will receive one hundred thousand dollars!

In addition, the payout will extend 20 places in the BHF Two-Year-Old Amateur class. In fact, checks will be awarded to the top 20 placing competitors in every BHF class.

Meanwhile, the payout structure for the National Halter Championship has changed slightly as well.

“The National Halter Championship Show is open to all AQHA, APHA, and ApHC registered horses,” Kennedy says. “We have added Amateur and Open Weanling classes as well as Youth Mares and Youth Geldings to the show this year. Remember that the top three placing horses in every class receive $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 respectively in addition to their trophy.”

“Also, there are additional monies paid to the top three color horses (APHA and ApHC).  The color money is $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 for the top three placing color horses in the class. So, every class has a potential payout of $10,000.”

In addition to adding Youth Mares and Youth Geldings to the National Halter Championship lineup this year, the Overall High Point Youth Exhibitor will receive a very special prize, one year’s use of a two-horse trailer from 4 Star Trailer and Arena Trailer Sales!

The stall reservation deadline of August 15th is quickly approaching. For more information about either of these halter horse events visit the links below.
